About

Why aren’t you still in Paris?

Often asked of me, often thought by me. Short answer: my time is up. I lived in Paris October 2005 - June 2006, but when my student days ran out, it was time to move back to London and get on with my life. But just to keep all my avid readers entertained, I’ve kept up with this journal … from time to time. I’ll leave the sections below for now, as I guess they’re still relevant.

Why the new site?

Because I’m going to Paris! Had you not guessed? A change of scene for me, so a new look for the website. Maybe if people visit it now, my friends will actually know what I’m up to.

So why go to Paris?

I don’t intend to suggest for one minute that I’m bored of London. But three years studying in the same place took it’s toll, and I decided it was time for a change of scene - if only in the form of a 9 month break. The opportunity arose to travel abroad for the final year of my course at Imperial (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) so I seized it.

It also turns out that Télécom Paris (as one of the famed Grandes Écoles) has a pretty cool reputation in France. Combine this with the fact that Imperial is perceived by much of Europe as Britain’s finest institution, and with a bit of name dropping it’s quite easy to start impressing people over here.

And why write a blog?

Attempting to take and publish a photo a day sounded like an interesting challenge, but after investigating incredibly pretty pieces of software like pixelpost, I decided it wasn’t quite what I was after. And I’m not nearly that organised or committed.

I wanted the whole site to more closely resemble a blog, but I’ll try to avoid filling it with random musings. Instead it will tier towards keeping my friends and family up-to-date with my life, and hopefully some interesting stuff about Paris and France in general.
